Roses in our garden: Lili Marlene

Posted by Mohan on July 24, 2026

The Rosa 'Lili Marlene' (also spelled 'Lilli Marleen' or registered as 'KORlima') is a highly acclaimed, classic floribunda bush rose bred by the legendary German grower Reimer Kordes in 1959. It is widely celebrated across Europe for its striking, non-fading scarlet display and exceptionally tough weather resistance.

Key Characteristics

Blooms: Produces abundance of distinctive, pointed near-black buds that open into large, flattened clusters of cup-shaped, semi-double flowers. The petals are a rich, intense velvety crimson-red with a deeper centre.

Weatherproof Colour: Unlike many red roses that can scorch or bleach, 'Lili Marlene' holds its fiery red hue perfectly through both heavy summer rain and scorching hot sun.

Fragrance: Possesses a very subtle, light, or mild traditional rose scent.

Flowering Season: An exceptional repeat-bloomer that flowers continuously in waves from late spring (May/June) right up until the first winter frosts
